Rhonda Lay joined SUHI in 2008 and currently serves as a Senior CHW Consultant & Trainer. Rhonda provides asthma education and support to children and adults. In addition, she is a trainer for CROWD, SUHI’s Center for CHW Research, Outcomes and Workforce Development. As a board member or advisor to several external partners, Rhonda has built strong relationships with many organizations including and not limited to the Chicago Asthma Consortium, I AM ABLE’s Trauma Response and Intervention Movement, Illinois Community Health Worker Association, and the National Association of Community Health Workers. Her greatest joys working at SUHI are the relationships she has with fellow community health workers and volunteering as a mentor with the Population Health Career Pathways program.
Prior to coming to SUHI, Rhonda worked as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) teaching adults on oxygen therapy who were newly diagnosed with COPD and other related respiratory diseases. Rhonda was also a team member for clinics that treated individuals with HIV+/AIDS and pediatric lung disease/post-neonatal patients with bronchial pulmonary dysplasia. In her free time, she volunteers at her church as the chairperson of the Health Commission. |
