Internship Opportunities

SUHI is pleased to offer internships for graduate students (background in public health preferred but not required). The purpose of these internships is to advance SUHI research, while improving students' skills and knowledge related to public health, population health, and epidemiological research. The timing and availability of internship opportunities varies and is dependent on project needs and applicant skills. Interested individuals can apply by clicking the button below.

SUHI has a formal partnership with Rosalind Franklin University’s Chicago Medical School (CMS). This partnership was established in 2012 to meet our mutual goals of improved community health and health equity. Through the partnership, SUHI hosts CMS students for summer and year-long internships.

Summer Internship

The summer internship is an intensive eight-week program hosted by SUHI, featuring an engaging lecture series, skill-building workshops, and book/film/podcast discussions. We cover over 25 population health topics throughout the summer, including an introduction to epidemiology, a physician panel on conducting health equity research, an overview of health care policies and financing, and more. During the internship, students work on current SUHI research projects, such as community-focused interventions, epidemiological studies, or quality improvement projects.

Please note that the program is primarily virtual, with some opportunities to meet in person for community tours and social events. For more information view our overview slides.

We accept applications between February 1 and March 1 every year. Additional information about applying is on Rosalind Franklin University’s Student Research Opportunities webpage.

Year-long Internship

During the academic-year internship, students work remotely with a SUHI epidemiologist on research tasks such as conducting literature reviews, writing manuscripts or research briefs, and gathering publicly-available data.  Applications are due by August 31 each year. However, after the deadline applications will be accepted on a rolling basis depending on project availability. To apply for an academic-year internship, fill out our application.
