René Bucio joined SUHI in 2021 as a Bilingual Community Health Worker (CHW) II for the CHW Support Program. René was promoted to CHW Program Coordinator in 2022, where he assists in planning and implementing CHW-led interventions, including the CAP program (CHWs Assisting Patients). René was part of a team who developed the CHW behavioral health program, launched in January 2024. Additionally, he collaborated on the development of the Mother & Child Health pilot , which was launched in May 2025.
Before joining SUHI, René worked at Rush University Medical Center for over thirty years in various roles, including Lead Clinic Coordinator for Rush University Internists and Division Administrative Manager for General Internal Medicine. René was born and raised in Mexico City, where he attended the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (National Autonomous University of Mexico) and received his bachelor’s degree in veterinarian medicine. He moved to Chicago in 1984. As an immigrant, René understands and cares about the needs of the Latino community, especially those who are undocumented. |
