Integrating CHWs into an organization's strategy serves the community by providing important "connector" services and creates economic opportunity by training and employing its members
Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) has more than twenty years of experience implementing and evaluating community health worker (CHW) interventions. From this deep expertise SUHI launched the Center for CHW Research, Outcomes, & Workforce Development (CROWD). CROWD’s mission is to eliminate social and health inequities by connecting communities, individuals, and service providers through the integration of a CHW workforce
“It’s a place that always had a very clear mission--well defined. And it’s always had a very dedicated group of individuals. It is more than a “doc in a box,” it is an organization that addresses many of the needs of the people of the community. I think a lot of people in the community rely on Sinai. The community would be diminished significantly if it weren’t here. It’s very easy to become involved in that cause. It becomes that for most people…a cause.”
